As we recommended above do not initially add your affiliate links until you have started your promotion, you might want to leave it as long as 2-3 months before you add affiliate links, or at least until you have been listed in the key locations you are targeting.
Once you have your site built and have your content in place it’s time to start promoting. Obviously you want to do it as cheaply (AKA Free) as possible. The three key places to start are:
The first two are feeder directories for a wide range of other sites and search engines and the third is one of the longest standing search engines submission sites on the Internet, and is still free!
Then the more time intensive option
- Link Exchanges.
As well as having a “Link to Us” page on your site, when it comes to link exchanges be choosy. You want to link to relevant websites. It’s preferable to link to sites with a good rating or page ranking. If you have a site about “cars” there is little point exchanging links with a site about “flowers”, all links are not created equal.
When requesting a link exchange, send a custom email to request one. Don’t just blast off a template request. There are thousands of people doing this and unless your email stands out it won’t get noticed.
