7. Linking up with your merchants

Once your site is listed and promoted it is time to start adding some links. It’s recommended not to add more than 3-5 links per page (assuming a page is roughly the same as one A4 piece of paper), and never more than 3 on the home page, if any at all.

When you initially built your site, you hopefully set up direct links to your target merchants. So now it is time to swap them out for affiliate links.

Creating links is easy on the networks we have recommended. They allow you to create:

  • Banner Links
  • Text Links
  • Product Links
  • Search Boxes

Each can be copied from the network and pasted into your site.

When doing so make sure to make changes to the copy and ALT tags to reflect your own keywords. Don’t use the default info provided unless it is suitable.

Meld your links into the page so they look like part of the presentation and not just pasted in randomly. At the same time, make it clear where the visitor must click. Don’t hide the links. You want the visitor to click through and visit the merchant; if they don’t then you won’t make any money.
